Our basic principle: if it’s not sustainable, it’s not TIN INN! We’d like to show you how we do things – accompany us on our path to sustainability. What can we improve?
What can you do with 10- to 15-year-old shipping containers that have already seen the whole world? Build hotels! Each TIN INN consists of completely modernised, comfortably furnished shipping containers. From old to new: instead of starting from scratch and wasting loads of building material, we use existing material and conjure up something new out of it. In exclusive cooperation with the specialists from Containerwerk, we rescue these decommissioned circumnavigators from the scrap baling press and give them a new, long-term purpose as ultra-modern hotel rooms. What’s it like to sleep in a box like that? Give it a try!
In this video, co-founder and CEO Nico Sauerland shows you how we implement sustainability in our TIN INNs, straight from the factory halls in Wassenberg.
Dive into the world of our new hotel concept!
Low grey energy
We turn old into new - by using used overseas containers, the amount of energy required for production is reduced immensely. In addition, our partner Containerwerk has invented a unique insulation process which ensures that the rooms are perfectly insulated and therefore very energy-efficient. By the way: A TIN INN stands on so-called "strip foundations". This minimises the impact on the natural soil.
Renewable raw materials
Our buildings are energy-efficiently insulated with the patented PUR system made from more than 50% renewable raw materials. Absolutely harmless to health: the same material can also be found in trainers and mattresses.
Cutting-edge technology
One of the most efficient and smartest heat pumps operates in our self-developed technology container. A separate control system collects all the relevant sensor values for air temperature and manages the controlled ventilation of the living space and is therefore able to create an optimum room climate. We achieve efficient heating and cooling for our hotel rooms via the underfloor heating in the bathroom and the self-developed air-conditioned ceiling.
Renewable energy
The TIN INN with its flat roof is naturally predestined for solar panels. That's why we want to equip all our roofs with them in future, so that we can generate the electricity for your stay sustainably ourselves. We are also working on a solution to green the surface and contribute to a more pleasant urban climate.
In the bathroom
Hand soap and the shampoo-shower gel combination come directly from i+m in Berlin. The company donates 25% of its profits to world-improving projects, is 100% natural cosmetics certified, 100% vegan and just as climate-neutral. They also make a statement against the unrealistic beauty ideals set by the conventional cosmetics industry.
On the loo
Maybe you've noticed: The toilet paper in the TIN INN has a message! Everyone deserves clean toilets, and the non-profit company Goldeimer is 100% committed to this. Because almost half of the world's population is denied what we take for granted. The toilet paper is also made from 100% recycled cardboard.
In the "living room"
The chic, movable furniture you see in your room are not only true designer pieces - they are also sustainable in the sense that they were not specially produced for TIN INN. Only returns from the large online furniture retailer Design Bestseller, which would otherwise be gathering dust in a warehouse, are placed in your room. Far too good for that, isn't it?
In the cup
Have you treated yourself to a coffee yet? Our partner My Coffee Cup uses EU-certified organic coffee and has taken the recyclable capsules to the next level: they even dissolve in industrial composting plants and thus return to the cycle without producing waste. Amazing, right?
On the floor
Look down - in most rooms our carpeting comes from Object Carpet. The carpet is not only made in Germany but also made from old fishing nets that ended up as waste in the oceans. They look much better in our TIN INNs, don't they? 😉
With the roomservice
We’ll let you have a say: At TIN INN, you decide for yourself how often your room should be cleaned. Only when your towels are on the floor are they changed. Because less is more - less water, less energy, less cleaning products. Plus: We use eco-certified, environmentally friendly cleaning agents from NeuTech and there are eco bin liners in your rubbish bins.
In built-in furniture
We did a lot of back and forth calculations to find out which wood is really the most sustainable: bamboo grows back very quickly and is therefore our FIRST CHOICE. We produce the built-in furniture ourselves at our partner Containerwerk in our factory halls in Wassenberg. Short distances - no deforestation of valuable forests and an incredible feeling of roominess for your apartment.
